Citizen’s of Ann Arbor often hear terms like “Northsiders”, “Westside Ann Arbor” or “Ann Arbor bedroom neighborhood” to distinguish where they live. As a contributor to AnnArbor.com, I can also say that the community often refers to itself from specific neighborhoods as in, “I’m from the Kerrytown district”. So which is it?  The answer is simply really, whichever one best describes your home, or where you live within Ann Arbor!  Now it appears that Ann Arbor residents may have a NEW neighborhood to consider home -  historic Germantown.

ann_arbor_historic_home_germentownAs reported on AnnArbor.com, a new historic district study committee, has recently been formed to determine the historic significance of a two-block portion of Germantown. The potential new Ann Arbor neighborhood includes an area along South Fifth Avenue where a developer wants to demolish seven turn-of-the-century homes to make way for an a new downtown Ann Arbor apartment complex called City Place. The new historic district study committee will study the area for the next year to determine whether it makes sense to establish a new Ann Arbor historic district to preserve the Germantown neighborhood.
