If you asked your grandparents, and possibly their parents, they would have told you that the best way to get the “news” was by visiting local establishments or even talking to neighbors.  Then somewhere along the way, we decided to get our news from reading the paper.  Many newspapers are dying a slow and painful demise (including the Ann Arbor News) though and are going the route of the Internet. And that brings us full circle, since much of the reporting of Internet newspapers is becoming more localized…  I suppose that is a lot like getting the news from your neighbor right? 

When AnnArbor.com went live, they wanted to also have specific news targeted at individual Ann Arbor neighborhoods.  However the challenge became, how do you define individual Ann Arbor neighborhoods?  Is it by the name of the subdivision, the zip code, or specific street names?  The decision was made to start by dividing Ann Arbor into six key hyperlocal areas, primarily landing on zip code boundaries.  You can now find your news by considering the following Ann Arbor locales:

• Downtown
• Campus
• Central Ann Arbor
• North Ann Arbor
• Ann Arbor West
• Ann Arbor South
